It was an easy and logical choice to hire Nicole Smith to take over as Director of Business Operations when Paulette Luczak retired this past year. Nicole had worked closely with Paulette each year consulting as part of our auditing team. Nicole’s familiarity with our operations and attention to detail paired with her sweet and sunny disposition made her the ideal candidate. Nicole’s expertise is invaluable as we strive to embrace technology with new information systems and data collection procedures for our programs and day to day operations. We are thrilled to have her on board as a member of the Cribs for Kids team!
What is the best thing about your job?
I love helping people and answering questions!
Where did you work previously?
I have my own accounting and consulting firm and prior to being an employee at C4K, they were my client! I have worked in accounting for 15 years.
What are some small things that make your day better?
Smiles. A genuine smile from someone is a great reminder to lighten up. When things are stressful and I feel out of control, a smile can center me.
What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home?
Hawaii. It’s my favorite and most traveled vacation spot and the plane ride is excruciating.
What’s the best single day on the calendar?
Christmas! Cozy family gatherings, watching kids open presents with such excitement, and cookies. Yes, the cookies are a HUGE part of why Christmas is awesome.
Why did you decide to do the work you are doing now?
I deliberately majored in something that would be challenging on a day to day basis but that I had confidence that I could master. It was a great choice because I really love accounting and feel like it’s the perfect job for me. If I could do it all over again, believe it or not – I’d still choose Accounting!
What have you created that you are most proud of?
My son! It’s still incredible to me to look at this little boy and think that he came from me.
What are some of your personal “rules” that you never break?
#1) If someone asks you for a loan and you agree, don’t ever expect that money back. Think of it as a gift. #2) always wash your face and brush your teeth before bed. Hit the sheets feeling clean. #3) Make your bed every morning. It takes 3 minutes and sets the tone for your day.
What kinds of things do you like to cook or are good at cooking?
I love to bake chocolate chip cookies. I’ve been told my sausage-stuffed jalapeños are fantastic.
What brand are you most loyal to?
What qualities do all your friends have in common?
All of my friends have a kind heart. It’s important to me to be able to have real conversations about real things, hear true opinions, and express feelings.
If you were hired to show tourists what life is really like in our city, what would you show them/have them do?
Take them on the Incline, to a Pirate game, shop in the Strip, and eat in Lawrenceville.
