Electra has indirectly been a part of the Cribs for Kids organization since the day she was born. Her Grandfather, Jim Agras was a founding board member of the Western PA. chapter of the SIDS Foundation. That organization went on to become SIDS of PA. and ultimately Cribs for Kids. While attending Chatham for Psychology, Electra reached out to us and began interning for Cribs for Kids. We are thrilled that Electra has opted to continue her work with us as our Program Services Assistant as she pursues her masters in Psychology and Counseling. Electra’s co-workers describe her as helpful, generous and resourceful. She has also been described as extraordinary, very organized and electric! You can find Electra using her skills as a fluent Spanish speaker as she answers calls that come on our Crib Line. She lends her time to helping families in need all over the country find the Cribs for Kids partner nearest to them so that a crib can be distributed to their family as soon as possible. We are so grateful to have Electra in our corner!
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that starting as an intern meant that I got a taste of everything we do at C4K. I learned quickly that with non-profits you get to wear many hats! I started working under Eileen Carlins which was an incredible experience. Eileen taught me everything I could have wanted to learn and more, she was the best example. I connected with her as an undergraduate Psychology intern. She allowed me to have such meaningful experiences observing our bereavement support group meetings and doing home visits. That was the final moment I knew I wanted to continue my education by getting a Masters in Science Counseling & Psychology. I want to be just like Eileen and help grieving families in need of support. When I returned to Cribs for Kids, I was able to work with Maggie, Bridget, and Andrea. I contributed to the planning of the Breath of Life Stroll and the Women of Achievement Awards! Shortly after that, I started working with Tiffany doing the Hospital Certification Program. I love doing this because I feel like we are making such a big difference all throughout the Country. My favorite part of this job is talking to the Doctors and Nurses who are so incredibly passionate about this program. Safe sleep was something I never knew was so important until I began working here. Now that I have been around families who experienced the loss of their infants, I have a special place in my heart for grieving families. I continue to spread the safe sleep message as much as I can both in and out of the office!
