Ask the Pediatrician – Dr. Eileen Tyrala’s Bio
Dr. Eileen Tyrala is a Board Certified pediatrician and neonatologist. She currently practices general pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.
Dr. Tyrala is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a consultant to the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Child Death Review Program, and is the Medical Director for Cribs for Kids®. As a strong advocate of the safe sleep message, she worked tirelessly to achieve the passage of PA House Bill 47, which mandated that all new families in PA receive education on how to put their infant to sleep safely before they leave their hospital or birthing center. She is the executive producer and co-writer of the award winning educational video, “Safe Sleep for Your Baby, Right From the Start”.
Formerly, Dr. Tyrala was a Professor of Pediatrics at Temple University School of Medicine. She was also director of Neonatology at Temple University Hospital and director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. She has contributed extensively to the peer reviewed medical research literature, as well as being the author of many chapters in noted text books in neonatology and pediatrics. Dr. Tyrala continues to lecture to both lay and professional audiences on the topics of safe sleep and pediatric advocacy. In addition, she has served her community as a member of her local school board for the past 10 years.
Dr. Tyrala is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, baseball and spending time at her shore house.
